Kia is planning an eventful 2026 for the Indian market, with several new products lined up across different segments. Alongside mass-market models, the company is also preparing to enter the premium SUV space with the Kia Sorento, a full-size 7-seater hybrid SUV. Although Kia has not officially announced launch details yet, the Sorento is expected to arrive in India in the second half of 2026, targeting buyers who want a large, powerful, and feature-rich SUV.

Expected Positioning and Rivals in India

The Kia Sorento will sit at the higher end of Kia’s lineup in India and is expected to be priced at around Rs 35 lakh. With this pricing, it will directly compete with well-established SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian. Kia’s aim appears to be offering a more modern and technology-focused alternative in this space, especially by introducing a hybrid option that is still rare in this segment.

Hybrid Powertrain Strategy for India

Globally, the Sorento is already in its fourth generation and is sold with multiple engine options, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid systems. For India, Kia is expected to focus on a petrol-hybrid setup, making the Sorento the brand’s first hybrid SUV in the country.

The hybrid system is likely to be built around a 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with an electric motor to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Kia is also expected to localise several key hybrid components, such as electric motors, battery packs, and power electronics. This localisation strategy should help keep costs under control while making hybrid technology more accessible to Indian buyers. Interestingly, a similar hybrid setup may also be used in a future Seltos hybrid planned for 2027.

Premium Features and Technology

As a flagship offering, the Kia Sorento is expected to come loaded with high-end features. Inside the cabin, buyers can expect a large dual-screen setup that includes a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, and multiple USB-C charging ports are also likely to be part of the package.

Comfort will be a major focus, with features such as leather upholstery, ventilated and heated seats, and a premium Bose sound system. Kia is also expected to offer modern conveniences like Digital Key 2.0, allowing owners to access and control the vehicle using a smartphone.

On the safety front, the Sorento is expected to include a Level 2 ADAS suite, along with essentials such as electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, ABS, multiple airbags, and a surround-view camera system. These features will help position the Sorento as a safe and tech-forward family SUV.

Size, Design, and Road Presence

In terms of size, the Kia Sorento is a large SUV with a strong road presence. It measures 4,810mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,695mm in height, supported by a long 2,815mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is expected to be around 176mm, depending on the final India-spec version.

Design-wise, the Sorento has a bold and upright stance, with a wide body that gives it a confident look on the road. Its modern styling, combined with large dimensions, should appeal to buyers looking for a premium SUV that feels both sporty and commanding.

Final Thoughts

The Kia Sorento 7-seater hybrid SUV could be a significant step for Kia in India’s premium SUV segment. With its large size, hybrid powertrain, advanced features, and strong safety package, it offers a different approach compared to traditional diesel-powered rivals. If Kia manages competitive pricing and strong localisation, the Sorento could attract buyers who want luxury, space, and modern hybrid technology in one package.
