The BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase (LWB) has received a fresh update for the Indian market, bringing new premium touches and advanced technology without changing its ex-showroom price of Rs 73.35 lakh. Positioned between the 3 Series and the 7 Series, this long-wheelbase sedan continues to compete with models like the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6 and Lexus ES. With this update, BMW has focused on enhancing luxury, comfort and in-cabin innovation.
New Panorama Glass Roof
One of the biggest additions to the updated 5 Series LWB is its new illuminated panoramic glass roof, a feature previously seen only in BMW’s higher-end models. The roof comes with a unique printed pattern and an integrated LED lighting setup that creates different colour effects inside the cabin. These lights sync with the car’s ambient lighting and automatically change shades based on the selected driving mode.
Even during daytime, the pattern on the glass remains visible, allowing more natural light to enter the cabin. This not only brightens the interior but also makes the space feel more open and luxurious, enhancing the overall comfort for rear and front passengers.
Driving Assistant Plus Added
BMW has also introduced Driving Assistant Plus in the updated model. This system brings several advanced driver assistance features, including lane-change warning, front and rear collision alerts and cross-traffic detection. It also includes active cruise control with stop-and-go, which adjusts the car’s speed based on traffic conditions and can bring the vehicle to a complete halt when required.
All these functions can be managed through the steering-mounted controls, making them easy to operate while driving. The addition of these technologies brings the 5 Series LWB closer to BMW’s more premium offerings in terms of safety and convenience.

Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the updated 5 Series LWB continues with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 258 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, which adds an extra 11 bhp and 25 Nm, offering smoother acceleration and improved overall efficiency.
The model offered in India is the 530Li M Sport LWB, which places a strong emphasis on rear-seat comfort. Thanks to the long-wheelbase layout, passengers get extra legroom, making it a suitable choice for buyers who prefer chauffeur-driven luxury along with strong performance.
Final Thoughts
The updated BMW 5 Series LWB delivers a more premium cabin experience with its illuminated panoramic roof, while the addition of Driving Assistant Plus strengthens its tech and safety credentials. Combined with a refined mild-hybrid powertrain and generous rear-seat space, it remains a compelling option for luxury sedan buyers looking for comfort, performance and advanced in-car features in a single package.
